Installation guide

Let's install WhichSkills locally. We'll check what you need, start the dashboard and load your skills. You can try the static checks before connecting Jev.

What you need

  • Python 3 and Git.
  • A folder containing SKILL.md files.
  • A terminal and a browser. No Python packages or frontend build are required.

Install and start the dashboard

Open a terminal and run the commands below. They download the project, select the revision used by these guides and start the local server.

git clone https://github.com/48Nauts-Operator/skill-dash
cd skill-dash
git checkout --detach f9247c7ee511c2048f144413de03f2067eff7c29
python3 server.py --port 3345

Open localhost:3345 in your browser. Leave the terminal running while you use the dashboard. The pinned revision makes the guide reproducible; it is not necessarily the latest release.

Choose what to review

The default view loads your Claude Code skills and enabled plugins. Open a row to inspect its instructions, associated files, and static flags.

For a separate repository, stop the server with Ctrl+C and run python3 server.py --port 3345 --roots /path/to/skills-repo. Replace the example path with your checkout.

In repository mode, personal transcript usage is excluded. Each set of roots has its own local SQLite database.

Add AI when you need it

Loading files and static checks work without a key. Jev judgments and the overlap audit need a TypeSafe API key. The judgment step comes later in this series.

To enable them in the dashboard, set TYPESAFE_API_KEY in its terminal before starting the server. Find overlap analysis in Settings and the editable questions on the Judges page.

It’s working if

  • The dashboard opens at localhost:3345.
  • The rows correspond to skills in your chosen folder.
  • Opening a row reveals the source evidence.

If the list is empty

Check that your selected directory contains SKILL.md files. Use --roots for repositories outside the default Claude Code directories. Hidden directories and node_modules are skipped in repository mode.
