Why Bowden-PII?

A model may need the situation without needing every personal identifier inside it.

The reason

A useful request does not always need a real name.

Applications often send identifying details alongside the context a model actually needs. Reducing that exposure should happen before the request leaves the system.

Bowden detects supported identifiers and replaces them with consistent placeholders. The mapping stays separate. This reduces exposure, but context can still identify someone, so evaluation remains necessary.

Keep the minimum useful context

A request can contain names, contact details or account identifiers that are unnecessary for the task. Sending all of them increases the amount of personal data exposed to the receiving system.

Bowden adds a local replacement step before text goes onward. Supported identifiers become typed placeholders, while the application receives the original-value mapping separately.

Preserve relationships

If the same value appears several times in one call, a consistent placeholder keeps that relationship visible. The downstream task can refer to the same entity without receiving its original identifier.

The reduced text still needs evaluation. Excessive replacement can destroy useful context; missed identifiers or indirect clues can still expose someone.

Reduction is not guaranteed anonymity

A job title, event or unusual situation may identify a person even after their name is removed. Placeholder replacement therefore does not guarantee anonymity.

Evaluate real domain examples, the receiving system and access to the mapping. Bowden’s developer-preview status makes that evaluation particularly important.
